Austrian duo triumphed at this year’s Novi Sad Masters tournament
After 80 extraordinary matches and top sports excitements performed in the past five days at Novi Sad's Danube river banks by 74 teams coming from 28 countries, prestigious CEV European Beach Volleyball Championships – Novi Sad Masters 2013 finished today. This tournament is organized for third consecutive year by Volleyball Federation of Serbia and Vip mobile. Championship tittle went to the best team of Strand beach, Austrian duo Alexander Horst and Clemens Doppler that bested silver medal pair Alexander Walkenhorst and Lars Flüggen of Germany in an very even finale match with 2-1 (20-22, 21-18, 18-16) Third place and bronze medal was claimed by Ukranian’s Sergiy Popov and Valeriy Samoday.

During Awards Ceremony Cups were presented by Maris Pekalis, CEV Jury President, Mr. Nenad Golijanin First Vice President and Mr. Vladimir Grbic, Vice President of the Volleyball federation of Serbia, respectively. Mr. Predrag Perunicic, State Secretary of Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Predrag Svilar, Member of the City sports Council, and Milan Novakovic, Director of City Greenery delivered medals to best three teams, while valuable checks were presented by Thanasis Katsiroumpas, Director/CEO of the Vip mobile company.

Gold team got EUR 5.000 check and 600 ranking points, silver medalists earned EUR 3.750 and 540 points, while bronze duo got EUR 2.625 and 480 points. Total prize fund for this tournament is EUR 25.000 provided by Vip mobile company.

Out of four local teams competing, Marko Galešev/Siniša Antonić and Marko Nikolić/Miljlan Kiković are best ranked duos as they took 13th place. Both teams won EUR 500 and 144 world ranking points.

Serbia was also trusted to hoist inaugural CEV Youth Beach Volleyball Continental Cup - Zonal Phase– qualifications for Youth Olympic games. Girls and boys from five European countries competed at Strand beach for entering this most important competition for young players aged 14 to 17 to be held in Nanjing, China in 2014. Teams from Italy, Switzerland and Spain advanced further into competition.

„We are very proud to be the hosts of European Championships Masters for a third year now, where best teams of Old continent compete, and also of first CEV Youth Continental Cup where our young players got to compete with their European opponents. By organizing tournaments of this rank we are constantly improving the quality of beach volley in Serbia'' stated Aleksandar Boricic, president of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia.

„Together with Volleyball federation of Serbia, in the past six years we have organized six National Championships, one Balkan Championship, two prestigious CEV Challenger tournaments and three Masters European Championships for which we got the highest marks from European Volleyball Confederation. Beside our dedication to indoor volleyball, these facts shows how committed we are to making Serbia one of the most important countries in the beach volley scenery“, stated Thanasis Katsiroumpas, director/CEO of Vip mobile company.

Best European Beach Volley was played in the past five days in Serbia. Novi Sad fans once again proved how much they are into this sport by filling up stands to the full capacity. Crowd enjoyed excited matches, and great entertainment program, DJ music, beach dancers and promo games with gifts.

Over 400 children up to 14 years of age learned ABC of beach volley from legendary Vanja Grbic within Vip Beach Masters school of volleyball. In the past three years over 3.000 kids across Serbia got valuable volley lessons.
